What to expect in a treatment?
When you arrive for your treatment, the front building door will be locked. Simply buzz my name on the intercom to let me know you’ve arrived, and I’ll open the door for you.
Most treatments begin with a brief discussion about how you’re feeling and what you would like to focus on during the session. If you’re unsure about what to work on, that’s perfectly fine! I can assess your needs and suggest a treatment plan.
If this is your first appointment, we’ll review your health history and address any questions you may have about the benefits and potential risks of treatment.
If you’d like me to attempt to direct bill your insurance plan, I usually do this before we start. This way, we can identify any issues with payment before the treatment begins.
After that, I’ll suggest a treatment plan for the session and ask for your agreement to proceed.
Do I need to pick one specific concern to work on?
If you have a chief complaint that is your main area of concern, it can be most beneficial to plan to focus on this one area. I can’t always predict how long things will take during a treatment—sometimes issues respond and release quickly, while at other times, we may need to spend the majority of a session on one area to achieve results. If we try to address too many concerns at once, we may end up not effectively treating any of them. However, if we do finish quickly, we can always find something else to address!
It’s also perfectly acceptable to book appointments for ongoing maintenance. In these sessions, we might touch on several areas that require continued care. This approach is effective for maintaining general health, even if it’s less focused on a specific issue. We’ll almost always find things that need attention through the process of treatment!
What do I wear during treatment?
The most important thing is that you feel comfortable and safe! Surprisingly, it’s possible to perform full massage treatments over clothing. If you prefer to remain clothed for any reason, that’s completely okay.
Alternatively, you can wear a piece of clothing like a bra, sports bra, shorts, or a tank top. If wearing such layers makes you feel more comfortable, that’s also perfectly fine. In fact, some treatments may benefit from this, as it allows you to move around without the risk of exposure.
Of course, many techniques involve skin contact. If you choose to undress, you’ll be covered with sheets and a blanket on the massage table, and we’ll only uncover the areas we’re working on, keeping the rest securely covered.
If you have any questions about clothing or what to wear, please feel free to reach out anytime.
