Scar Tissue Release Treatment
Scars are the body’s way of repairing itself and filling in gaps left by injury or surgery. We’re fortunate to have this natural healing process! However, scars can be unpredictable and may pull on surrounding tissues, binding sheets of fascia and restricting tissue mobility.
Scar tissue treatment is a form of myofascial therapy that aims to release and mobilize the bound-up tissues around a scar. This treatment usually involves working around the entire area or limb surrounding the scar, as well as directly on the scar itself. The approach is not aggressive or “rippy”; instead, it works with your body’s tissues rather than against them.
Sometimes it’s obvious when a scar is limiting mobility, as it may feel tight or restricted. However, even scars without noticeable symptoms in daily life can still affect surrounding tissues and may produce a wide range of sensations during treatment.
Common types of scars treated include:
Joint replacements
Gender-affirming surgery
Fractures with pins or plate implants
C-sections
Gallbladder and other organ removals
Amputations
